Diego Garcia Fashion Show

I just thought it was funny about the bathroom wall. They never even bothered to take the packing label off.

Taking Pictures

Rubik's Cube Master

This is Ghani, the bartender at the O'Club.

He's got the pattern down.

I can't even begin to imagine what kind of brain power it takes to do this.

On the weekends the O'club is empty, because most people are going off to the other clubs where the live entertainment is. Filipino bands that are flown in here for a month or so. Morale, Welfare, & Recretation the government sponsers for the Sailors and Airmen here.

The O'club has the live band during the week, on the weekends nothing is going on. Except free happy hour food!

Pancit and lumpia!

Getting ready for the Navy Ball

One of my co-workers, Gena, is getting ready for the Navy Ball!

And Steve, one of the managers here, taking the photos.

A bird that creates no nest, in a storm.

On Diego Garcia, BIOT, there is a species of birds (of which I do not know the name) that creates no nest. It just sits on it's eggs until they hatch, no matter the conditions.

Sitting on eggs, with no nest

These birds just fascinate me. I don't know if the male and female birds switch sitting on the eggs, or if the male is off getting food for it's mate.

Notice how the bird has wedged a branch in between it's tail-feathers, to stay on top of the eggs during the high winds here.

Mating Season

The male finches turn red to attract a female. Everyone feeds them, because they are so cute. Usually they are on the balcony looking for food (they will come into your room if your door is open), now they just want to keep dry.

EDIT: Now that I look at the pictures, they are not all the way down the balcony. Just around me. Maybe it's not about the rain, it's about the food!

Two Little Birds Outside My Doorstep

I don't know if this is true or not, but I was told that this is the only species of birds that never builds a nest. They just lay their eggs amoung the branches. It kind of makes sense, since the winds are so high here. Evolution at work.

I also don't know if they mate for life, but they are certainly dedicated towards each other. When the rains come, I always see them huddled together, bearing out the storm.

Rocky and me

Rocky has been here so long that I think they built the Officer's Club around him.

And then we got drunk and wanted to fight one another

And laughed about it the next day.

At the end of the day, when you leave work, you go home, you see the exact same people!

So there is a lot of fighting, and if they are friends, a lot of laughter about the fighting.

There was a rumor of pork chops at the Officer's Club

I actually got off the the midnight-to-noon shift, and stayed awake as long as I could to get back on a normal schedule.
